SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST MEANT TO BE.
My name is Patti and I had the wonderful opportunity to be the full-time care partner for my amazing Mom, Linda. My Mom has had dementia since 2017 (the year before my wedding) and type 1 diabetes, so she requires 24-hour care. I am also a full time Kindergarten teacher, wife, friend, and I help support my Dad, who also has dementia but lives in a care facility.
My Mom moved in with my husband and I in May 2020 and we haven’t looked back once. She passed in 2022 and I am so thankful for the opportunity.
Every day was filled with laughter, crafting, dance parties, dogs, and silliness. It is also filled with losing parts of my Mom in front of my eyes as dementia takes parts of her independence and abilities.
I am SO thankful that my Mom adopted me and provided me the best life I could imagine, so I feel SO fortunate that I get to give some of this same joy back to my Mom. I feel so blessed that I have the patience, space and energy to give my Mom the best care possible.
